City gets month's rain in a week

It's just the first week of June and the city has already fulfilled its quota of rains for the month. Following heavy showers in the past three days the city has crossed the average rainfall figure of 125 mm, which is the normal rainfall for the month according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

PUNE: It's just the first week of June and the city has already fulfilled its quota of rains for the month. Following heavy showers in the past three days the city has crossed the average rainfall figure of 125 mm, which is the normal rainfall for the month according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
As per the normal average, Pune is expected to record 125 mm rainfall between June 1 and June 30.

But, with pre monsoon showers giving a boost to the overall rainfall, the city already witnessed 144.4 mm rainfall till Monday 8.30 am.
City did not record any rainfall for the first two days of the start of this month but after that a continuos rainfall was witnessed in the city.
The monsoon entered the city on Saturday. Till Sunday, the city witnessed 118.6 mm rainfall. On Sunday 25.6 mm rainfall was recorded and the overall rainfall for the first month went past the 125 mm mark.
When contacted, IMD officials stated that pro rainfall system has caused this situation. Such systems are still present and are likely to cause showers in most parts of the state, including Pune, in the next couple of days.
"Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over east central Arabian sea off north Maharashtra-south Gujarat coasts, a low pressure area has formed over east central Arabian sea off north Maharashtra coast. The off shore trough at mean sea level from Maharashtra coast to Kerala coast persists," Medha Khole, director (weather forecasting), IMD said.

More showers are expected in the city in the next couple of days.
"Spells of rainfall would occur in the city," the IMD forecast stated. As per the IMD, the southwest monsoon has been active in Konkan and Goa, madhya Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka and Kerala.
The daily weather report of the IMD stated that conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of north Arabian Sea, south Gujarat, some more parts of madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada and remaining parts of Karnataka and some parts of Bay of Bengal and parts of northeastern states in the next 2 to 3 days.
